:: Welcome to FunNet!
IRC stands for Internet Relay Chat. The protocol was developed in 1988 by Jarkko Oikarinen of Finland, and since then, IRC has since become one of the most popular ways to communicate across the Internet. Some unique features of IRC that distinguish it from other forms of chat are:
  • Individual room "ownership"
  • Ability to transfer files
  • Programmability via client scripting
FunNet offers many of the same features as larger IRC networks, such as channel registration, but we offer our users a much different outlook than most other networks. Our operators and network staff are easily approachable and friendly, our network services are simple enough to operate yet powerful in operation, and our network has been well-established for over four years! And above all, we have never lost ourselves in administrative tasks - we keep our network fun!
You just need to get an IRC client (such as mIRC, BitchX, or EPIC) and connect to:
  • us.funnet.org - North America
  • eu.funnet.org - Europe
  • irc.funnet.org - Other
FunNet staff members are available to help you, in #help. Our friendly, knowledgeable staff and volunteers are willing to assist you with whatever problems you might have, or even just to answer your questions about FunNet or IRC in general.
